Common Questions About OrderSpy

1. What is OrderSpy and how does it work?

OrderSpy is a fraud screening service for merchants who accept credit cards over the Internet.  The merchant's shopping cart software or order processing system must call the OrderSpy software with data such as the customer name, E-mail address, street address, IP address, and other information as configured by the merchant.  OrderSpy will then process the transaction and return the fraud score and advice to the merchant's shopping cart software.  The merchant can then configure their software to automatically accept or reject the order, or notify the merchant that they should manually review it.  OrderSpy uses many methods for determining whether an order is fraud including real-time open proxy databases, IP to geographic location mismatches, high risk country score increases, address verification, and more.  Our system can automatically detect fraud and help the merchant easily identify high risk orders thereby reducing order processing costs and chargebacks.

2. What systems is OrderSpy compatible with?

Most payment systems and shopping carts are compatible with OrderSpy.  Virtually any merchant with their own merchant account may take advantage of all OrderSpy features.  Any payment system that allows the merchant to input customized HTML code during order processing or after an order is processed is compatible with OrderSpy.

3. Will OrderSpy save my company money?

OrderSpy helps prevent fraud at the source, before a fraudulent order is further processed.  A great tool for any merchant selling physical goods, software, or services.  Since OrderSpy can be configured to reject orders before they are sent to the gateway or further processed, your company will save transaction costs, processing costs, chargeback fees, and inventory loss.

4. How much does the service cost?

As of May 2008, OrderSpy is now a free service.

5. How do I setup OrderSpy?

After you register for OrderSpy using the form above, we will send you via E-mail your custom license key.  This key allows you to access the OrderSpy software.  Instructions for installing OrderSpy on a Perl, PHP, or Python platform are provided on the Setup and API page.

6. Why are return values such as distance calculations and bin lookups sometimes not returned?

Some of the checks that OrderSpy uses do not work for all orders. The distance from IP address to the billing address calculation and address verification features only work for orders placed in the United States. Although our BIN database is updated frequently, there are no records for some BIN numbers, resulting in empty BIN country matches and issuer return values.

7. My question was not answered here, how can I contact OrderSpy?
